There are over 350 varieties of wisteria in this garden, including 150-year-old “The Great Wisteria” that spreads around 1,000 square meters of space.

Another thing is, this park is known for impressive illumination at night, so if you stay till the dark, it will be worth watching.

Join The Sanja Matsuri in Tokyo

Sanja Festival is one of the three main Shinto festivals in Tokyo, which is held annually in the Asakusa Shrine for three days on the third weekend of May.

It is celebrated in honor of Hinokuma Takenari, Hinokuma Hamanari, and Hajino Nakatomo, the three men who established Senso-ji Temple.

Naoshima island is such a place that will awe you with its visuals. It is a part of the Kagawa prefecture and is located on the Seto Sea.

Although the specific origin of this festival is uncertain, it is believed that Aoi Matsuri began in the 7th century.

At that time, there were probably natural disasters occurring, which were assumed to be caused by the gods of the Kamo Shrines.

After the Emperor made offerings to the deities, the disasters calmed, and a tradition was started.

Before the celebration, she must go through the purification ceremony and then be taken through the parade on a palanquin.

Hakata Dontaku is one of the biggest citizen’s festivals in Japan, takes place for two days on 3rd and 4th May.

This feast has been held in Fukuoka City since 1962, which attracts over 2 million spectators each year.

Throughout the course of the fiesta, thousands of traditionally dressed-up people dance through the streets of Fukuoka.

Apart from the dancers, the gala also features ornamented floats called Hana Jidosha that are attractively lit up at night.

So if you're planning to visit Japan during the first week of May, make sure that you book your domestic flights and shinkansen tickets weeks in advance. 

However, post May 5th, the local crowd will reduce because everybody will go back to work. This is when you should plan your trip to Japan in order to avoid excessive crowds.

Since Japan sees quite a bit of an international tourist crowd in the month of May, I strongly suggest that you pre book your stay beforehand.
