Arashiyama bamboo forest

Now, the first question that everyone has on their mind is, where is Arashiyama Bamboo Grove?

Well, this forest is located in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto, near the base of the Storm Mountains.

It is actually two separate bamboo groves, which are between the Sagano-Saiin line train tracks and Tenryu-ji Temple grounds.

The combined length of the forest is around 500 meters and about 140 meters wide.

The address of Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is 〒605-0028 Kyoto, Higashiyama Ward, Bunkicho, 61 City House JOY Sanjo.

In the center of the eastern section near the main street, you will find a famous Shinto Shrine, Nonomiya-jinja.

And on the southern edge of the western side, you will see the lovely gardens and halls of Tenryu-ji Temple, one of the most beautiful Buddhist temples in Kyoto.

Check Out The Art Installations at Arashiyama’s Kimono Forest

The Kimono Woodland in Kyoto is probably unlike any other forest you have ever seen.

This contemporary "forest" is made up of roughly 600 beautiful and colourful cylinder-shaped pillars with intricate textile artwork that line a paved walkway next to Arashiyama's Randen tram station.

Each pillar is two metres tall, and the patterns are done in the traditional Kyo-yuzen fashion, which is a method used to dye silk panels with incredibly intricate, vibrant motifs that are frequently used for traditional kimonos.

Together with Kamedatomi, a textile manufacturer with more than a century's worth of history, artist Yasumichi Morita created and carried out this art piece.

Travelers nowadays can stop at Ryu no Atago, a little pond where people pause to pray for their aspirations and desires, and take a self-guided trek through the vibrant modern forest.

And as night falls, Kimono Forest is bathed in glistening LED lights, lending the already picturesque environment of Arashiyama a surreal ambiance.
