Okanen Shampoo Review / Japanese Sakura Shampoo

Okanen Shampoo or Japanese sakura shampoo is a good buy for hair loss and also helps with anti dandruff. After using this shampoo for about a month, I noticed my hair fall and dandruff had reduced visibly.

Just after a week of use, I started noticing that my hair was shinier and smoother.

The shampoo is formulated with cherry blossom extracts which has anti inflammatory properties. I do have a pretty sensitive scalp and I noticed that the shampoo sort of soothed my scalp and reduced any redness I had.

I absolutely love the scent this shampoo has. It's very subtle and pleasing. The shampoo does promote hair growth cause I saw a lot of new hair growth after I started using the Japanese sakura shampoo

How to use Okanen shampoo?

You have to use the Okanen shampoo like you would any regular shampoo. Simply wet the hair and massage the shampoo into your scalp. Massage the shampoo onto your scalp for a few minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Follow it up with a conditioner.

How to choose Japanese shampoo for hair loss?

With so many options available, it can get confusing when choosing the best Japanese shampoo for hair loss for your hair type. Here’s a guide to help you understand what type of shampoo is good for your hair type.

This guide will also help you understand which ingredients to avoid and look for when choosing a Japanese shampoo for hair loss.

It’s also important for you to understand the cause of your hair loss before you can invest in a Japanese shampoo, so we’ll go through that as well.

There are 4 things you should consider before choosing the best Japanese shampoo for hair loss for yourself:

  1. Cause of hair loss
  2. Hair type
  3. Ingredients
  4. Reviews

#1 -- Causes of hair loss

It’s important to understand what’s causing the hair loss. If you’re going through hormonal changes, extreme stress, pregnancy -- all this can cause hair loss. Hair loss can also be a side effect of a bad diet or certain medications too.

You could also be experiencing hair loss due to dandruff, excessive use of hair styling products and heat, oily scalp, hair dyes, weak hair roots, and more.

If you suddenly start loosing clumps of hair, appearance of patchiness or bald spots, it’s best to visit your doc. However, it’s normal to lose about 100 strands for hair per day.

Some things to look out for depending on the cause of your hair loss:

  • Hair loss due to damaged hair: Damaged hair can be caused due to excessive use heating and styling tools, hair dyeing, weathering, over brushing. This can lead to split ends or at the very least frizzy hair. If you have damaged hair, focus on reviving your hair. First of all, reduce the use of heat or hair dyeing. And whenever you do, brush your hair gently. Use a Japanese shampoo that aims at rejuvenating your hair with moisturizing ingredients, conditioning agents, essential oils, essential hair and scalp nutrients.
  • Hair loss due to dandruff or itchy scalp: Product buildup is a common culprit for dandruff and itchy scalp. Dandruff can also be caused due to dry scalp conditions. Use a Japanese shampoo that will maintain and retain hydration while also get rid of product buildup. If you don’t see an improvement or reduction in dandruff then visit your doctor as there could be a different cause for dandruff.

#2 -- Hair Type

What I love about Japanese skincare and hair care ingredients is that they are made to solve a particular problem or maintain a particular skin type or hair type. Rather than just formulating a one size all products.

Which is why it’s extremely important that you select a Japanese shampoo for hair loss that not only reduces hair fall but also suits your hair type and scalp.

If you have dry hair and scalp and you end up using a shampoo meant for oily hair - this cause worsen your condition and make your hair and scalp drier. If you have fine hair but use a shampoo that’s meant for curly hair, it can worsen the quality of your hair and maintaining your hair will become a nightmare.

Let’s go through the different hair types to understand what type of Japanese shampoo should you pick:

  • Dry Hair

There are multiple reasons why you could have dry hair. If you have dry hair cause of excessive use of heat styling products, hair colors then reduce the use of these. But sometimes you may have dry hair cause your mama did and her mama did!

To maintain dry hair look for hydrating and moisturizing ingredients in the shampoo. Also make sure that the shampoo doesn’t weigh down your hair and make it flat (moisturizing agents tend to do that). If you see sulfate written on the ingredients’ list then ditch the shampoo - sulfates wil worsen dry hair.

  • Thin/Fine Hair

Each hair strand on your scalp is attached to a gland called sebaceous glands. These glands produce oil. If you have naturally fine hair, this means that number of hair strands per sq cm is more than other hair type. Which in turn means that you have more of these oil-producing glands on your scalp.

Basically, if you have naturally fine hair then your scalp and hair will tend to get greasier sooner than other hair types.

So if you have naturally fine hair then look for a Japanese shampoo that’s free of silicone. Silicone is an ingredient that’s used to maintain frizzy hair by forming a protective layer that repels moisture. But Silicone can do more harm than good. Silicone can completely dry out your hair hair and scalp sending your scalp into an overdrive to produce more oils thus making the condition worse.

Instead, look for Japanese shampoos for hair loss that are formulated with natural ingredients that help control excess oil in your scalp without completely leaving your hair and scalp dry. Choose a Japanese shampoo for hair loss that contains natural moisturizing agents to maintain a healthy balance of moisture and oil in your hair and scalp.

  • Curly Hair

Maintaining curly hair is no joke. Curly tends to get drier and frizzy more than other hair types. If you’re experiencing hair loss, look for a Japanese shampoo that can help maintain your curls with a lot of moisturizing and conditioning agents.

  • Color-treated Hair

You want to choose a Japanese shampoo specially formulated for colored hair that can protect your hair and retain your hair dye. Make sure that the Japanese shampoo contains conditioning agents and moisturizing agents to keep your hair from drying out and minimize hair damage.

  • Oily Hair

If you have oily hair and are experiencing hair loss then look for a Japanese shampoo that’s gentle to not disrupt the natural oils or completely strip your hair strands of its moisture while still being able to clean out the excess oil in your scalp. Make sure to avoid silicone in your shampoo this can cause more harm than good, if you’re already experiencing hair loss. Stay clever of sulfates as well.

Look for a shampoo with natural ingredients that can help wash out excess oil or product build up. Choose a Japanese shampoo that includes ingredients that can help control the excess oil while still providing your hair and scalp with the necessary nutrients.

If you have oily hair then massage your scalp slightly longer. Work in the shampoo into your scalp in order to break down the oils and product build up.
