Before we dive into the storyline of the Naruto movies it’s worth mentioning that the Naruto anime series was divided into two narratives. The first story focuses on Naruto’s childhood and the second anime series Naruto: Shippuden focuses on the adult years of Naruto. 

The first three Naruto movies align with the first anime series of Naruto while the rest of the Naruto movies connect to the Naruto Shippuden series.

List Of Naruto Movies in Chronological Order

Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow (2004)

This film introduces Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura watching a movie played by the actress Yukie Fujikaze. The trio was preparing themselves for their next mission by watching this movie. 

Kakashi Hatake has ordered Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to protect Yukie from a planned kidnapping. Yukie who’s the princess of an island called The Land of Snow was originally called Koyuki Kazahana.

Koyuki’s father Sosetsu was murdered by her uncle Doto Kazahana during a coup to overthrow him. Doto sends his men to capture Koyuki but they fail due to Naruto and his friends. Doto eventually captures Koyuki and forces her to give her a crystal necklace which is a key to her father’s treasure. 

Naruto uses his chakra powers to kill Doto and save Koyuki who’d reclaim her throne.

This movie connects to episodes 101- 106 of the Naruto anime.

Legend of the Stone of Gelel (2005)

A battle arises between sand ninjas and armored warriors on a beach when Naruto, Shikamaru, and Sakura go on a mission to retrieve their pet ferret. Naruto and his friends are attacked by the armored warriors and a knight called Temujin. 

When Naruto fights with Temujin, Shikamaru and Sakura witness a giant spaceship-like machine. 

Shikamaru learns that inside the machine are pods that are filled with humans and Temujin’s associates activate the pods to use humans’ souls to enter into armored soldiers.

Later Temujin introduces Master Haido to Naruto who informs him about the lost Gelel Stone which is a powerful mineral. Haido reveals his desire to retrieve the stone and make the world peaceful. 

However, Naruto instinctually realizes Haido’s evil plans and would later destroy the stone and defeat Haido using his chakra powers. This movie is parallel with episode 160 in Naruto anime.

Guardians of the Crescent Moon Kingdom (2006)

In this movie Naruto, Sakura, Kakashi, and Rock are entrusted to protect Prince Hikaru and his father Michiru from a wealthy island known as the Land of the Moon. When Naruto and his friends arrive at the island they meet King Shabadaba who betrays them and locks them up. 

However, they’re let to escape by Korega, and when they’re on the shore Shabadaba’s men catch them and take Michiru back to the castle.

Naruto and his friends use the circus as a distraction to infiltrate the palace and escape. 

Sakura and Lee fight off the soldiers while Naruto uses his Crescent Moon chakra powers to defeat them and Michiru becomes the king of the Crescent Moon Kingdom. This movie connects to Naruto anime after the events in episode 196.

Naruto Shippuden The Movie (2007) 

This movie introduces new villains like Yomi who attacks a shrine to release the spirit of a demon called Moryo. Yomi offered his body as a host to Moryo who plans to destroy the world. 

Moryo plans to kill a priestess called Shion who hinders him from achieving his evil plans. He uses his powers to resurrect an army from the dead to kill Shion.

Meanwhile, Naruto and his friends are sent to save Shion and take her safely to the shrine where Moryo’s body is available. 

However, they’re attacked by Moryo’s army and they kill Shion. Surprisingly they realize that Shion has the ability to foresee and transform her soul elsewhere at the point of death. Naruto fights the stone army and helps Shion defeat Moryo using his Super Chakra powers. 

This movie is connected to Naruto: Shippuden after episode 53.

Naruto Shippuden The Movie: Bonds (2008)

A group of ninja called the Soranin suddenly attack the village of Konoha as an act of vengeance when Konoha attacked the Sky Country. 

Meanwhile, Naruto and his friends help Amaru and Dr. Shino back to their village. When they try to save the rest of the villagers, Amaru gets possessed by a monster named Reibi causing Naruto to transform into the Nine-tailed fox.

Eventually, Naruto figures that Shino has betrayed them and used Amaru for his experiment. Naruto saves Amaru and uses his chakra powers to kill Shino. This movie is connected to Naruto: Shippuden after episode 111.

Naruto Shippuden The Movie: The Will of Fire (2009)

When Kekkei Genkai ninjas disappear from their lands and The Land of Fire is the only area unaffected rumors speculate that The Land of Fire is behind these events. The other lands deploy their troops to attack Konoha and Feudal Lord promises to capture the criminal. 

Hiruko turns out to be the villain who absorbs chakra and Kekkei Genkai powers from ninjas.

Naruto and his friends are sent to attack Hiruko and prevent him from absorbing their powers. This movie connects to Naruto: Shippuden after episode 89.

Naruto Shippuden The Movie: The Lost Tower (2010)

Naruto and his mates are assigned another mission in this movie. This time they’re seeking to find a man named Mukade. They find him in Loran as Mukade tries to control the ninja world by using his Ryumyaku powers. 

When Naruto and Yamato are struck by his powers they’re sent to their past lives. In the past, Naruto meets Sara, queen of Loran who reveals to him that Mukade killed her mother. 

Mukade threatens to kill the citizens of Loran by summoning the Puppet Ninja Forces. Naruto promises to protect Sara and her people with the help of Minato, Shibi, Choza, and Kakashi. Naruto successfully defeats Mukade and returns to the present with Yamato and unites with their partners.

This movie links to episodes 152-154 from Naruto: Shippuden anime.

Naruto The Movie: Blood Prison (2011)

In this movie, Naruto is falsely accused of attacking the Fourth Raikage and is arrested and sent to the Hozuki Castle. Naruto’s chakra powers are controlled using the Sky Prison Control Seal by the prison guard Mui. 

A Black Ops member informs Naruto that Mui framed Naruto and wants to use his chakra powers to open a sealed box that contains his son Muku.

When a prison riot broke out Mui uses Naruto’s powers to unlock the box but he released Muku who’s possessed by a demon spirit. As Naruto and his friends try to fight the demon, Mui attempts to seal it in the box and places the box at the sea. Naruto is then released from prison with all charges cleared.

It’s quite uncertain when this movie falls in the timeline due to some plot holes. However, the probable timeline this movie connects to is after episode 196 from Naruto: Shippuden.

Road to Ninja: Naruto The Movie (2012)

In this movie Naruto witnesses his friends having a good time with their families while he feels isolated. He and Sakura are then confronted by Tobi who offers them a chance to move to a different reality. 

Naruto and Sakura are in a genjitsu reality where Naruto’s parents are alive. They also learn about a group of masked ninja who seeks the Red Moon scroll. 


As Naruto attempts to return to his original reality, the masked ninja attacks the village and kidnaps Sakura. Naruto takes the Red Moon Scroll with him and tries to save Sakura but is overpowered by the ninja and his masked beasts. Naruto fights the masked ninja and returns to his reality with Sakura.

This movie is connected to the events after episode 251 in Naruto: Shippuden.

The Last: Naruto The Movie (2014)

This movie is set two years after the 4th Great Ninja War where the moon created by Otsutsuki is going to collide with Earth. Meanwhile, a descendant of Otsutsuki named Toneri abducts Hanabi, the sister of Hinata. 

Naruto, Hinata, and their friends are now assigned to save Hanabi.

Since Naruto has to prevent the moon from colliding Hinata leaves with Toneri to save her sister and Naruto is left heartbroken as he developed feelings for her. 

However, in the final battle, Naruto saves Hinata and Hanabi and also restores the moon in its orbit using their chakra. This movie aligns with events after episode 500 in Naruto: Shippuden.

How many movies does Naruto have?

The Naruto franchise has expanded from producing animated series to making movie adaptations like any other franchise. Naruto has a total of 11 movie adaptations, however, only 10 movies are connected to the Naruto anime series while Boruto: The Next Generations is focused on Naruto’s son.
